final questions and close of day

These parallel training sessions for doctors, nurses and ODPs will be held in the Veterinary School Pathology Centre. Directions will be provided from the Main Vet School Building (VSM) close by.

Training will be aimed at achieving competence and accreditation in the safe set up and use of the Da Vinci robotic systems as a theatre nurse or first assistant. Trainees will be instructed in choice, position and placement of ports with introduction of trocars, the hazards and limitations of robotics, best practice, safe use of electrosurgical energy, safety alerts and emergency undocking procedures in the event of an emergency.

Some nurses and ODPs may wish to undergo further training towards an extended role to include such procedures as insertion and removal of trocars and closure of ports themselves. The experience of experienced trained robotic first assistants will be shared with the delegates, together with the required skill set and standards, but it is not intended to complete comprehensive training of this extended role in this first course. Completion of this will be dependent on subsequent local mentoring to verify the achievement of the necessary skill set laid out in this course.

The course is heavily sponsored by surgical technology manufacturers and distributors. Please do engage with the exhibitors: you may well find what you are missing from your unit.
